What is content spinning?

The context

Besides on-site work, one of the main lines of work of a referencer consists in creating a multitude of quality links to the site that benefits from the referencer’s actions. Historically, the referencer community has always considered that the best location for a link is within an article addressing a topic related to the theme of the page towards which that link leads. It is thus up to references to find so-called « spots » to place links to their clients’ websites and provide articles in which those links can be placed. There is no better method than to provide the articles themselves. In such cases, it is possible to control their quality, their length, their link anchors, their location in the text, the coexistence of related thematic links in order to cover the tracks, and their number.

In this context, content spinning is the method of production for articles and descriptions that is the most effective, and thus the most affordable at a certain scale. Let us take a concrete example: a 300 word article written by a decently skilled editor will cost you, depending on where you order it from, between 7 and 20 euros. If you need 300 articles, it will thus cost you between €2,000 and €6,100. You will also need to ensure that all of the articles are written by different authors if you want to avoid finding similar turns of phrases from one article to another when they touch on the same theme. To compare, a 300 words spin master by SpinWave costs €180 without tax and it includes between  16,000 and 23, 000 variations, which allows for the production of hundreds of articles with a very low rate of similarity (below 10%).000 et 23000 variations, ce qui permet de produire plusieurs centaines d’articles ayant un taux de similarité très bas (inférieur à 10 %).

What does content spinning consist of?

What exactly does content spinning consist of? This first involves writing an article on the chosen theme. Let us imagine, for example, that a request has come in from a garden furniture manufacturer. We might imagine the following sentence: « I’d love to buy a braided wicker furniture set with large while linen cushion to set it on the teak rim bordering my pool. » Content spinning involves writing variations that will then allow for the creation of dozens of variations for the same sentence. Through combinations, these dozens of variations for each sentence of the article, their eventual permutations inside the same paragraph, and the permutations of the paragraphs themselves eventually allows for the creation of hundreds of articles that say essentially the same thing, but not in the same way. Variations are grouped in two brackets and separated from each other by a vertical bar, called a pipeline: {variant 1|variant 2|variant 3|variant 4}

Example:

{I’d love to buy a braided wicker furniture set with large while linen cushion to set it on the teak rim bordering my pool.|I could totally see myself with a large oval teak table with {NUM1} chairs sheltered from the sun under the pergola}.

We first of all start off with a variant of the complete sentence, while ensuring that these variants can be inserted into their paragraph without causing a problem with the meaning afterwards.

Example:

“I’d love to buy a braided wicker furniture set with large while linen cushion to set it on the teak rim bordering my pool. It’s while I was looking for this that I same across the UnoPiu website, a real gold mine for everything having to do with garden furniture!”

This also works in the following context:

“I could totally see myself with a large oval teak table with 6 chairs sheltered from the sun under the pergola. It’s while I was looking for this that I same across the UnoPiu website, a real gold mine for everything having to do with garden furniture!”

Then, we work on the variations within each sentence for a spin of the sentence which might look like this:

{{{I love|I would love|I dream of}{purchasing|investing in}|{I dream of|{I love|I would love} getting myself|buying}} {a set|of furniture|garden furniture} made with {{exotic wood|braided wicker|teak|cast iron}{| with {{|stones and }cushions {colored fuschia|anise}|large white cushions{| made with {linen|cotton{| processed{| anti-repellant}}}}}}{ to {position|plac}e them|, I {would then be able to|will then} {place{|them}|{put| install}|plac}e}} {{next to l|on th{e platform|around} {tiled|teak} surrounding m}y pool|in the garden{| at the foot of the {| large} oak}|on the terrace}.

The spin rate for this sentence is of 80%, and it allows for 32 variations, which is good for a sentence numbering between 17 and 32 words at output.

Content spinning’s (justified?) bad reputation

Until now, the main issue with content spinning was the uneven quality of articles which it generated: problems of subject-verb agreement, of conjugation, of grammar, incomprehensible or strange sentence sections, etc. This is precisely the first quality criterion that distinguishes a spin master who comes from SpinWave: the editorial quality of the articles generated.

Our standards at this level are the highest on the market: from a sample of {NUM1} articles, our error rate fluctuates between 0 and 2% of the total number of words, which puts the articles generated by our spin masters at the same level as those written by a very good web editor. The other issue with content spinning has to do with the number of variations allowed by a spin. Indeed, this number varies widely and depends on the quality and skill level of its editor. For a spin master of 300 words, we generally achieve between 16,000 and 23,000 variations.

So, what’s the recipe for quality spinning?

For a good spinner, you need an excellent editor. Indeed, having a thesaurus in front of you is not enough to become a good spin master; it’s actually probably even the worst way to proceed. To become a good spin master, what is necessary is an exceptional mastery of the English language, you have to love English! You have to know how to play with turns of phrases, with antonyms, paraphrases, parables, understatements, useless words or sentence portions that can randomly disappear…and not just with synonyms. You also have to take a qualitative approach that constantly brings up the level of the whole team of spinners, with supervisors having a higher level than the spinners themselves and, from time to time, the timely intervention of English university professors who come to help our team members improve their abilities even further.

Finally, experience and the willingness to always do better have brought us to develop techniques specific to content spinning which are applicable immediately from the drafting stage. This is in fact the reason why we can only guarantee our spin master’s performance by drafting all articles to be spun ourselves, right from the start.
